Pooles Island

Site 92 at Pooles Island is the last remaining open water placement site in the Maryland portion of the Chesapeake Bay. The site is located immediately south of Pooles Island, which lies east of Baltimore. The collection of open water placement sites at Pooles Island includes Site 92 and the G-Complex sites (G-West, G-South, and G-Central). Only Site 92, which began receiving material in 1998, is currently active. Although quantities vary each year, approximately 800,000 cubic yards of material are placed at Site 92 annually. Monitoring of the placement activities is on-going. Site 92 will permanently close to new dredged material by the end of 2010. The Dredged Material Management Program is developing a long-term plan to compensate for the site’s closure. |
